Hi all,
I recently upgraded a machine I own from 2K->XP pro. I already had SPTD installed (with Daemon tools) under 2k, but it failed to work once upgraded. I tried to uninstall and reinstall and got the infamous "Failed to oped config key" error.
In any event, in this half-installed mode, SPTD caused serious USB problems for me. iTunes couldn't detect my iPod, camera software failed to see my digital camera, and my USB flash drive no longer worked. In essence, anything that would mount as a drive via USB no longer worked. XP still detected the device, loaded the appopriate drivers, and so on. It seemed that only the drive-like functionality was gone. USB devices like a USB->serial converter, USB printers, USB hubs, and so on continued to work unaffected.
I tried reinstalling the appropriate software & drivers for these different devices which did not fix the the problem. Also, all these devices worked post-upgrade, so the upgrade itself was not the issue.
Eventually, I remembered the problems with SPTD, and disabled it via the FAQ registry fix. (setting the key to 4, see below)
See FAQ (http://www.duplexsecure.com/en/faq) for details. 2nd question on the list.
Note that I'm sure doing the safe-mode uninstall and reinstall would probably fix the USB issues as well, but I wanted to make sure these particular symptoms were identified, and at least a temporary fix was identified as working.
