I thought y'all might be interested in this test:
My test with the new SPTD v1.47 beta:
Test drive: PX-760A with the latest firmware revision
Software: Exact Audio Copy V0.95 beta 4
Other interesting things of some interest:
Use of SCSI interface: Installed external ASPI interface (Adaptec's ASPI v4.60)
Drive read command: Read command D8 (found with 'auto detect read command')
Allow speed reduction during extraction: Checked
Without SPTD installed:
EAC without -usefua
Test 1:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Unchecked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Unchecked
Results:
Track ripped with NO reported errors (even though there are)
Test 2:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Checked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Unchecked
Results:
Read error then sync error, then canceled as it was going at .3x.
Test 3:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Checked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Checked
Results:
Read/sync then canceled
Test 4:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Unchecked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Checked
Results:
Sync error no read error
EAC with -usefua
Test 1:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Unchecked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Unchecked
Results:
Read error then sync error. Canceled due to slowness.
Test 2:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Checked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Unchecked
Results:
Read error then sync error. Canceled due to slowness.
Test 3:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Checked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Checked
Results:
Read/sync then canceled
Test 4:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Unchecked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Checked
Results:
Read and sync error reported.
Conclusion thus far:
Well, it seems like Plextor's PX-760A does support -usefua with Exact Audio Copy (afterthought: this may not be new news, lol). This is rather good news, especially for people that would decide to use Test 4's settings as the test started out at 17x.
Now to continue on. We know how the PX-760 acts without the -usefua switch so I'm not going to repeat those tests with SPTD installed (though I will upon request) so I'm going to jump right into the with -usefua switch
With SPTD installed
EAC with -usefua
Test 1:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Unchecked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Unchecked
Results:
Sync error reported. Doesn't look good.
Test 2:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Checked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Unchecked
Results:
Read error then sync error. Canceled due to slowness. Nothing new
Test 3:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Checked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Checked
Results:
Same as Test 2
Test 4:
Drive settings:
Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature: Checked
Drive caches audio data: Unchecked
Drive is capable of C2 data: Checked
Results:
Sync error reported
Conclusion:
Well, it seems that the newest beta still breaks EAC's -usefua command.

It's also not recommended to use ASPI v4.60 anymore.

Doing a quick retest with the latest version of Adapetec's ASPI (tests 1 & 4 above). It still shows that -usefua does not work with SPTD installed. The same is true for if I select the use 'Native Win32 interface for WinNT/2000/XP'.

Where is your Plextor connected (which controller and vendor), and do you use special vendor drivers (or original Microsoft drivers)?
What happens if you remove all software using SPTD layer (e.g. Daemon Tools, Alcohol)?

I'm not at home so I can't tell you everything, but I will tell you as much as I know.
My Plextor is connected to my secondary IDE port (master position) on a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 (with NVIDIA nForce2 ultra 400 chipset) and I use the original Microsoft drivers for the IDE controller (as it has been recommended to stay away from the Nvidia ones). And currently I don't have any software that requires the SPTD layer installed, just SPTD.

Actually you get SyncError with and without SPTD while using EAC FUA with Plextor 760 - so what's broken?

Actually you get SyncError with and without SPTD while using EAC FUA with Plextor 760 - so what's broken? No read error is reported and EAC behaves differently in tests 1 and 4 with SPTD installed and -usefua than it does without SPTD installed.
With just a sync error present (and not a read error) it shows that EAC is reading from the cache (which is supposed to be disabled with -usefua)
I am not the only one with this problem.
Check out this thread at hydrogenaudio:http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=41028&hl=usefua especially from post 20 and onward

There is no question that SPTD breaks FUA functionality; not only with EAC, but with dBpowerAMP and PlexTools as well.

We'll check it, although such "report" doesn't help at all.

Any word regarding SPTD's interference when trying to pass FUA commands to a drive when using PlexTools, EAC, dBpowerAMP or Spath's Cache Explorer?

We expect that to be fixed with next SPTD layer version.
Regarding Cache Explorer the author may fix his application by using Microsoft SPTI correctly.

Whether Cache Explorer works correctly does not really matter. Have you determined that the other three programs do use Microsoft SPTI to your satisfaction?
