Hallo,

after installing STPD in secure mode with no other progs running (also no anti-virus), my PC does not finish the reboot. Near by the end of loading Win2K it comes to a black screen with automatic reboot and so on ...

The only way to get out of this is to enter secure mode without loading SPTD.sys . I tried to remove it by "sptdinst.exe remove", but I get an error warning saying: SPTD isn' currently installed. So I deleted it manually by deleting the files STPD.SYS and STPD****.sys in C:\WinnT\system32\drivers\.

Why does your tool say that STPD is not installed after installing it with Spdtinst.exe add?

Why can't I boot when having these files installed (STPD.SYS and STPD****).? I need it to install Alcohol120%

I hope somebody might give me some HELP

Do you have afs2k.sys present in WinNT\System32\Drivers directory?
Do you have any minidump available (in WinNT\Minidump directory)?

Hi Digger
Thank you for your interest in my problem!
- No I do not have afs2k.sys in the drivers directory
What does this driver stand for?

- Yes I do have a minidump in the minidump directory
How could I send it to you, I looked inside but couldn't understand what it says.

The problem came while installling alcohol120 virtual drive.

I tried installing different versions of Alcohol120, regarding the tried version, the driver blocking the boot-procedure where different.

xmasbus.sys
a347bus.sys
vax347b.sys
sptd.sys on latest Alcohol120 version.

Alcohol120 is running whithout problem on my notebook, the difference between notebook and desktop PC are that the desktopPC has win2k updates (+/- february 2006) the notebook hasn't got updates for about a year.

hope to hear once more from you

kind regards

This new Minidump is sent to support

I tried to completly uninstall SPTD.SYS but it failed.

First I tried to install SPTD by using SPTDINST.EXE ADD and I was told to reboot my system (Win2k SP4) to finalize the installation.
When rebooting the system crashes by a Black Screen Of Death and reboots, and this going on and on.
To get the system runing again I have to enter secure mode and delete SPTD.SYS and SPTDxxxx.sys.

Using SPTDINST.EXE REMOVE in secure and normal mode, gave the message: "SPTD.SYS currently not installed".

But using regedit I find a lot of SPTD-keys, but they can't be deleted.
In daemon-tools forum, http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/showthread.php?t=9327 , many people have the same problem.

I also disabled: ControlPanel/System/Advanced/Startup and backup(demarrage et recuperation, in french win2k),Writing debugging info: NONE

@minimaus:
Unfortunately the dumps you sent show some crash inside kernel only.
But your systems seems to contain some drivers known as potentially problematic; this includes Roxio drviers, InCD drviers, AnyDVD drivers, asapiw2k.sys, and sonypvm1.sys.
You can try to remove e.g. InCD, and AnyDVD, then check if it helps.

minimaus I would also recommend uninstalling programs until you can install without seeing a BSOD. If you can identify a particular program as causing a blue screen when combined with SPTD that would be very useful information!

@Digger:
I had now some time to try out your tips.
First I renamed all the mentioned drivers one by one, rebooting after each renaming, without any result.
Then I uninstalled the drivers one by one, rebooting after each uninstall.
Uninstalling RoxioEasyWriteDiscReader -> B(lack)SOD + reboot.
Uninstalling Ahead InCD -> Blue Screen with KMODE_EXCEPTION _NOT_HANDLED.
Uninstalling AnyDVD -> BSOD
Uninstalling SonyUSBDriver -> BSOD

asapiw2k.sys was only renamed because I do not know how to uninstall it.

The problem occured first as I wanted to install Alcohol120's virtual drive.
I tried out different versions of Alcohol120 as I thought this would resolve the problem.
Depending on the version of Alcohl120 installed I had to delete these files to get my PC running again:

xmasbus.sys
a347bus.sys
vax347b.sys
sptd.sys on the latest alcohol120% 1.9.5.3823

As other users, my Pc has hdad all Microsoft updates a few weeks before installing the Alcohol120 virtual drive.

Do you have any anti virus installed?
Do you have any Siemens related software installed? There seem to be some drivers which could be problematic.
Do you use RAID? You have fasttrak.sys in system?

I use AntiVir PE Classic which was shutdown during the uninstalling and rebooting procedures.

I have some Siemens Hardware (Phone station with USB-connection for fax and Call-loging ) and Siemens -software for my cellularphone (GSM)

Yes I use RAID and I have Fastrack.sys in the system32/drivers folder.

Do you run Microsofts anti spyware Windows Defender?

Sorry for the delay.

No I do not know about some Microsoft AntiSpy defender!

Perhaps there is something installed by Microsoft which I do not know, when I did the last update, about march 2006.

How may I detect this defender?

Thanks for your help!
