Hi. What are the registry permissions on
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\sptd\Cfg
?
Although I am admin on my local machine, I can not view the CFG key permissions.

This key is under control of SPTD, and protected against any unauthorized access, thus even administrators don't have any access to it.

i cant take ownership or change the permissions on this key to remove it - even in safe mode. can this be achieved without reverting to a restore point or o/s re-installation?

Disable SPTD in registry, i.e. execute regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\sptd and change the value Start to 4.
After reboot you can delete the whole sptd key in registry.

thanks digger you're a star. just one last thing - could you clarify what values 0,1,2,3,4 ... n accomplish and why this key is locked out even in safe mode?

thanks in advance :)

like already mentioned: It is to protect the SPTD from ANY unauthorized success
or misuse. And no, we cant give you further info on this key, as its classified.

The important values Digger already wrote, everything else is for internal use.

Nevertheless, as Digger already wrote, just deactivate / deinstall SPTD and
the "problem" with this key is gone. Of course SPTD will then not work anymore:eek:

So the correct way to determine whehter SPTD is installed is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\sptd\

Start = 0

I am running Vista X64 Ultimate. I have the start value set to 4 and have rebooted and it still will not let me remove the registry key.

You must enable all permissions of sptd/cfg key first.

Ive tried all this, disabling SPTD, deleteing the key (after reboot of course) and Ive tried SC config sptd start= disabled or whatever, then reboot, then sc delete sptd. I cant seem to uninstall this to get the latest trial of alcohol 120%. I would appriciate any help with this. I disabled my firewall, and spybot last try I did before posting here, and it didnt help any. I admit, could be the installer for alcohol, but your installer didnt list the option to uninstall. :S

The problem is Daemon Tools Pro need to configure SPTD in initialization, and I got this error "Unable to add adapter. Registry access error"!! How can I overcome this without taking the ownership of the registry entry?

I really hope u can help, Digger. Cause those silly support over DT just keep saying reinstall DT Lite will save the day...

Try to un-install Daemon Tools (just delete the installation folder if it fails), then disable SPTD in registry (see above), reboot, and delete the key (enable permissions of sptd/cfg key first), reboot again, then re-install Daemon Tools.
If this doesn't work mail our support@duplexsecure.com.

The problem is installation of SPTD requires reboot to get SPTD in system, and Daemon Tools Pro won't start without SPTD in system. And as I stated, DT Pro tries to configure SPTD in registry during its initialization (NOT installation). SO the nightmare is either no SPTD, Daemon won't start; or SPTD in system, registry locked, access error!!

thanks for the reply,
but still hope u can tell more about the start's values...

There should be no Daemon Tools Pro while SPTD layer is not present in system if you followed the procedure, i.e. Daemon Tools Pro installation should be done after reboot required due to SPTD layer installation.
In such case complete removal and re-installation of SPTD and all software using SPTD layer is required.

... but my trial license of DT Pro is already expired without actually able to run the program even once, also I cannot re-install the DT Pro. Thanks to the "smart" ppl in DT, lol...
