  • Still SPTD.SYS error (v1.25). System won't boot up

    Hello dear members,

For two weeks i am trying to install the SPTD.sys drivers (I want to use Daemon tools). Yesterday i installed the latest version (sptd.sys v1.25). The system will not boot after installation. I installed ONLY the sptd.sys (using SPTDinst-v125-x86.exe add). I get a BSOD saying:

SPTD.SYS error. Address F779275a base at F777c000, datestamp 449d037b. I must then restart in safe mode and rename the sptd.sys (windows\system32\driver folder). After doing that the system will reboot again, but sptd.sys is not installed ofcourse.

Every help would be very appreciated!!

    Thanks,
    Anneke

Hi underheave, thanks for your interrest. unfortunatly the system does not generate a minidump file. All settings in control-panel\system to create a dump file are ok. The target dir for the dump is set to c:\ but no file is there when rebooting in safe mode. .
I do get a bsod when starting windows normally wich says that sptd driver is the problem.

Do you have any sugestions how to fix this or how to create the minidump or provide you the nesescary information?

        thx again.

If you don't have a minidump file then I suppose that's all the information you can give. I don't have any suggestions on where to go from here.

Check if you've afs2k.sys in Windows\System32\Drivers folder. Some HP software use this driver, which is known to cause trouble.

                Hi Digger,

Well, I do not have the file you mentioned...
The only HP software i have installed is doftware for a HP deskjet 3420 and software for the HP scanjet 4100 c. Could that be the problem?

Are there other files which could give the problem?

                  System Hang, no clue

                  Hi,

My system hanged this morning during first boot : SPTD.SYS trouble.
The only wait to make it start was to rename SPTD.SYS in order to make sure the system doesn't load it.

consequence : no more D Tools and cd virtualisation

I tried a lot of things wich are described in this forum and the DTools Forum.
I update to the 1.25 version of SPTD.SYS without success. System still hang at startup.

DTools and SPTD were working fine until yesterday. The only modification wich happened yesterday was the installation and desinstallation of the Demo of Call of Juarez (monoplayer, fr).

It doesn't seems to be a Windows update trouble, the last one on my system seems to date from june.

My system have MC Affe Antivirus running and Windows Defender. I didn't tried yet to uninstall these programs to see if it correct the problem.

Since the problem arise at startup, i strongly suspect some kind of copy protection trying to avoid SPTD.SYS to load or some interference from Antivirus/Antispyware wich could detect (i don't why) SPTD.SYS like a threat. I already uninstalled a Securom (such a pain !) without correting the problem.

Does anyome has an explanation of what cause with disruption of SPDT and how to correct it ?

                  Meanwhile, no more DTools :!

uninstalling Microsoft Defender : still BOD at start Up
uninstalling McAfee : still BOS at star Up
unistalling last games installed : ditto
                    modifying boot.ini : ditto

getting rid of DTools 4.03 and SPTD.SYS : had to do it manually, DTools won't uninstall. Regestry keys of SPTD don't allowed to be erased.

Reboot OK (since there is no more conflict with SPTD wich is no more...)

Installing DTolls 3.47 : PC start OK
back to CD emulation, old way

conclusion : there is something not compatible between SPTD.SYS 1.25 and my system. I tried to suppress the obvious conflict without success.

                    I am baffled !

If anyome find a cure to this problem...
